This project was to repaint the complete exterior of a lovely weatherboard home as well as restoring faith in the Master Painters due to this client having a poor experience with a contractor in the past.
During this project we gave the 1920's bungalow the care and preparation it deserved. As you can see by our progress photos the stripping was meticulously carried out.
The result - a beautiful and delightful bungalow that looks as though it has just been built. Our client was exceedingly happy with the results and has had multiple neighbors and passers by stop to ask who did the paint work on this property. Not to mention the previous elderly owner stopping in to remark on the beautiful finish of her old home.
The main feature of this home is the inviting porch and entrance way. From the moment you enter the front gate and meander down the garden path you are welcomed to a wee gem. The property has been very well presented and the base of that is the preparation that has lead to the home looking like it has just been built, but with a nice modern colourscheme.
Not a stone has been left unturned with this property, it is a lovely weatherboard bungalow.
2021 Master Painters NZ, Gold Award
Sims & Blue Engagement & Project Experience November-December 2020
Reference 18th February 2021
I am the owner at 14 Embo St, Kew, Dunedin. In November 2020 I engaged Sims and Blue to do a full
repaint of my 1920’s Weatherboard Bungalow including repainting the roof. Not a small project as a
lot of the house required stripping right back.
When I began the process of getting quotes and committing to the project it was not something, I was
looking forward to having been through this once before and having had an exceptionally bad
experience and result the first time, despite having selected a Registered Master Painter with a
workmanship warranty, so I was very apprehensive regarding businesses stating they were registered
master painters. It was a costly job and exceptionally poor workmanship. I did not know of Sims &
Blue back then and I wish I had.
From the start Sims & Blue stood out. Glenn Sims promptly arrived to view the property and listened
as I outlined my budget, what I was hoping to achieve, when I would like to proceed and the
experience I had been through previously. He made his assessment, measured up and I received the
quote promptly.
Any questions I had were addressed and nothing was a problem. My initial feeling once I met and
spoke with Glenn was that he knew what was required and that Sims & Blue would do a good job that
was within my budget, one that would meet my hopes and expectation for the project before I even
received the quote.
What a different experience and result this time. Kelly was the primary painter on my job and his work
ethic and approach to the project was fantastic, he is a very dedicated and hard worker and Sims &
Blue are lucky to have him.
Glenn’s project management was first rate, his practical and personable approach start to end was
excellent.
The result was fantastic, and I could not have been happier or recommend Sims & Blue more highly
from engagement, project management and their workmanship. I feel exceptionally lucky to have had
Kelly on my project from start to finish, in fact he did a majority of all the work.
Sims & Blue are certainly the sort of firm that can Master Painters can proudly be associated with. I
happily recommend this business and team to anyone who asks and even to people who do not and I
do not give recommendations lightly. A stark contrast to my first experience with a Registered Master
Painter.
