This was a special project on one of Dunedin's most iconic buildings: the Category 1 Historic Place main tower block of Otago Boys' High School. This beautiful building was built in 1885 and was designed by R A Lawson. It is regarded as one of the finest Gothic revival structures in the country. So when we were contacted for this project we understandably jumped at the chance.
The project itself involved repainting all windows on the front and left elevations on the main building plus all the steel downpipes and spoutings (remaining elevations to be completed later in the year).
The result has left the grand building looking sharp and crisp as it sits overlooking Dunedin's city centre.
The windows themselves have an interesting design that mirror the archway detail on the top. They are built in large numbers and are the main feature of the design.
The other smaller, though no less important details, are around the downpipes that have designs pressed into them. Also the spouting has boxed features that complement the design of the building as a whole.
The school was very happy with the timeframe this was carried out in and the finish quality. The building now looks fresh and crisp.
